Sheriff’s Helicopter Requested to Assist in Search for Lost Hiker

HESPERIA:(VVNG.com)- A Sheriff’s helicopter responded to a search and rescue call involving a lost hiker in an area south of Hesperia. The call for service was made at approximately 9:30 P.M., on Saturday October 17, 2015.

Per scanner traffic, the male went for an hour hike and became lost. He called dispatch from a throw away phone making it difficult for dispatchers to trace the exact GPS coordinates.

San Bernardino County Sheriff’s helicopter was requested to assist in the search for the lost hiker. At approximately 9:40 P.M., the lost and dehydrated hiker was located by the helicopter between the spill way and Highway 173.

The male was loaded into the helicopter and transported to a safe area near the Deep Creek dam. The male was transported by ground ambulance to a local area hospital with none life threatening injuries.
