SANCATT Hosting Free Window Etching Event to Help Prevent Vehicle Theft

HESPERIA:(VVNG.com)- It seems just about daily a member of our community is affected by a vehicle theft. Often times, this crime results in loss of income or even employment due to not having means of transportation. Statistics show that a vehicle is stolen every 30 seconds in the United States. There are strategies you can can take to help detour thieves from targeting your vehicle.

The San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT) is organizing a community event where they will offer free Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) window etching.

This is a service that costs several hundreds of dollars if performed at a retailer or car dealership. SANCATT, will be providing this service free of charge to any resident of San Bernardino County.

VIN etching is a countermeasure to motor vehicle theft that involves etching a vehicle’s VIN onto its windows to reduce the value of a stolen vehicle to thieves.

The free window etching day is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 9am until 4pm, in the Hesperia Walmart parking lot located at 13401 Main Street.

Residents are encouraged to bring their vehicles and help make your vehicle less appealing to steal.

For more information join the Victor Valley Auto Theft Recovery Effort Facebook group.

SANCATT, would like to thank Walmart and the Hesperia Police Department, for their support of this community program.
