EL MIRAGE, Calif. (VVNG.com) – San Bernardino County authorities have made a significant breakthrough in a homicide investigation following a grim discovery in El Mirage last week.

A press conference has been scheduled by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department to address the recent arrests associated with the El Mirage case where six bodies were located on January 23.

“Sheriff’s Headquarters, 655 E. Third Street, San Bernardino CA 92415, will be the venue for the press event at 5 p.m. today,” announced the department. “No information will be released prior to the press conference.”

Members of the public and media outlets can expect a YouTube link for the press conference to go up after the event.

VVNG reported on January 24 about the initial discovery, revealing the mounting toll as a sixth body was found at the crime scene alongside five others discovered earlier. The department relayed the latest developments during a press conference at the Victor Valley sheriff’s station.

The case triggered an immediate response by officials after the report of the incident was received late on January 23. A remote area off Highway 395 became the focal point of the crime scene, where six individuals were found deceased.

The Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez addressed the ongoing probe and the caution that surrounds the release of particulars.

Rodriguez stated at the last press briefing, “All information is preliminary, as you could imagine the investigation is going to continue for several hours so this information is subject to change once the investigation is complete. At 8:16 P.M. last night, January 23, deputies were requested to respond to a remote area off of Highway 395 in El Mirage. This is a very remote desert area, and for that reason, CHP aviation division accompanied us to the call and were able to help us in locating the scene and the decedents. Upon arriving we located multiple decedents at the scene, and investigators with our Specialized Investigation Division responded to assume the investigation.”

Reporters at that press conference attempted to dig deeper, inquiring about the specific details of the additional body’s location and the origin of the report. Questions also arose about a van seen with apparent bullet holes and the timing of the bodies’ arrival at the scene. “We don’t know at this point yet,” Rodriguez responded.

Despite the somber and unresolved details of the case, Rodriguez shared the department’s commitment to resolving the investigation swiftly: “It’s going to be heartbreaking no matter what the situation is, what they discover out there as far as the circumstances surrounding it. Our investigators will continue to do their best to wrap this up quickly and get all the information possible to get all this information out there.”

Further updates will be provided following the press conference.
