San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Crimes Against Children Detail Honored With Shine A Light Award
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Crimes Against Children Detail of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has been recognized with the Shine a Light Award for its ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable children and combat exploitation across the region.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, the specialized investigative unit was honored for its dedication to identifying offenders, rescuing victims, and dismantling networks involved in the exploitation of children.
The recognition comes as April is observed as National Child Abuse Prevention Month, which promotes community involvement in preventing child abuse and emphasizes that all children have the right to grow up in safe, nurturing environments where their physical, emotional, and educational needs are met.
The award was presented during the 27th Annual Shine a Light on Child Abuse Prevention Awards Ceremony held Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the DoubleTree Ontario, 222 N. Vineyard Ave., in Ontario.

The event brings the community together to recognize individuals and organizations working to prevent child abuse and protect children and families throughout San Bernardino County.
Children’s Network Officer Ashley Brooksher described the honorees as “unsung heroes who go above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to ensure that the children in our County are safe,” adding that “these honorees demonstrate how simple acts of kindness can be life-changing for these children,” according to information shared by San Bernardino County on the Shine a Light information site.
The Crimes Against Children Detail handles thousands of cyber tips each year and conducts complex investigations using both traditional law enforcement methods and advanced digital forensics. These efforts have led to arrests and successful prosecutions, officials said.

Members of the unit routinely work on some of the most difficult cases in law enforcement, yet approach each investigation with “professionalism, compassion, and unwavering integrity,” according to the statement.
In addition to investigative work, the team provides education and outreach to law enforcement partners and the community to help identify and prevent child exploitation.
Officials said the unit’s continued dedication strengthens public safety and restores hope for families affected by these crimes.
