
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A stretch of Rock Springs Road is currently closed following a two-vehicle traffic collision with extrication here Thursday.
The crash involving a red Chevy Cavalier and a silver sedan was reported at 5:31 pm, on Rock Springs Road about a quarter-mile west of Kiowa Road in Apple Valley.
Firefighters with the Apple Valley Fire Protection District responded to the scene and located a male driver and female passenger trapped in the red sedan. Firefighters used the jaws of life to extricate both occupants from the vehicle which was completed by 6:06 pm, radio traffic reported.
Due to the extent of their injuries, two medical helicopters were requested to airlift both patients to out of area trauma centers. CHP’s helicopter H80 transported the male patient to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and County Fire’s helicopter H325 transported the female patient to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
The driver of the silver sedan was transported by ground ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Officials have shut down Rock Springs Road at Kiowa Road as they continue to treat the patients and land both helicopters near the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Apple Valley Police Station. Additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
