VICTORVILLE— Diane Alvarez,36, of Hesperia was arrested today and booked into the Victor Valley Jail for possession of stolen property that was stolen from a vehicle.

The gifts that were stolen belonged to a 15-year-old girl who is mentally disabled and autistic and was celebrating her 15th birthday. The gifts were placed in the car in preparation for her to open the following day, but the car was wiped clear of all gifts before the victim had a chance to open them, ruining a special occasion.

In a strange sequence of events, Diane Alvarez took to social media earlier today, prior to being arrested and made a public announcement.

She posted in Victor Valley News Group (VVNG) that she was seeking legal action for the circulation of her picture and stated that she did not break into a car. She claimed in her online post that the gift card she was suspected of using was sold to her by male subject outside of a local bingo hall.

Shortly after her post in VVNG, which contains over 19,000 members, she was arrested and now faces felony charges for this crime if convicted.

It is unsure if she turned herself in after the post, or if police were tipped off as a result.

Mike Chaidez, the victims father commented on Victor Valley News’ Facebook page and said ” I truly appreciate The Whole H.D and their Residents…for their help and outstanding support for my daughter.
Thank You Guys!”

Anyone with additional information regarding the investigation should contact Detective Paul Solorio at the Victorville Police Station 760-241-2911 or submit information via the 1 800 WE-TIP hotline.
