Pilot Fire: 70% Contained; Full Containment Expected by Sunday

HESPERIA, Calif: (VVNG.com)- Firefighters battling the Pilot Fire continue to make significant  progress.  As of Thursday, August 11th, the fire is now 70% contained with 7,889 acres burned.

Another notable change is the number of personnel assigned to the fire has been reduced.

Resources committed to the Pilot Fire include 81 engines, 15 water tenders, 12 helicopters, 51 hand crews, 19 dozers, 8 air tankers, and a total of 1,548 personnel.

The estimated containment date is expected to be on Sunday, August 14th, 2016 at approx. 6:00 p.m.

Today will bring another day of south winds of 10 to 15 mpg, with gusts to 30 mpg during the afternoon. Relative humidity values will commence in the teens during the morning hours, then rising around 20% by late afternoon as moisture gradually pushes into the area. Temperatures are expected to be approximately 90 degrees in the high desert area and around 80 degrees above 5,000 feet.

  • The Victorville Fairgrounds Animal Shelter closed last night.
  • The Red Cross Care and Reception Center at Oak Hills HS closed last night.
  • Apple Valley USD & Hesperia USD classes resumed on 8/11/16.
  • Rim of the World High school center remains open.
