PHELAN, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A man and a woman sitting in their vehicle were both shot by a 44-year-old man identified as Hector Rodriguez, of Phelan.
On Sunday, July 22, 2018, at 3:33 am, the female victim called 911 from the parking lot of a Shell Gas Station at the corner of Palmdale Road and Bellflower Street in Victorville.
“When deputies arrived they found the 26-year-old female victim in her car with a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a second victim, a 36-year-old male in the vehicle with 2 gunshot wounds to his right arm,” stated a sheriff’s news release.
The female was airlifted to an out of area trauma center and the male victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
“Through the investigation by Detective Robbi DeBois, it was learned the two victims were sitting in their car near La Mesa and Johnson Road in Phelan when the suspect, identified as Hector Rodriguez, drove by them and fired several rounds into their vehicle striking both the victims. The victims were able drive to the Shell Gas Station and call 911,” stated the release.
Police said the suspect is known to both the victims and the motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
At about 8:00 am, detectives located Rodriguez and his vehicle at a residence in the 4800 block of La Mesa Road in Phelan and arrested him without incident. Inside the Rodriguez’s vehicle, deputies located gun magazines and ammunition.
Hector Rodriguez was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for attempt murder and is currently being held on a $1 million dollar bail. He is scheduled for arraignment in a Victorville courtroom on July 24, 2018.
