VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 44-year-old Phelan man was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and battery during a confrontation with two adults who felt the suspect was staring inappropriately at their children who were playing at a Victorville park.

It happened on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at about 3:00 pm, when Victorville police responded to a disturbance call at Mesa Linda Park, in the 13100 block of Mesa Linda Drive.

According to a Monday afternoon sheriff’s news release, the suspect, Hector Sanchez was reportedly at the park for an extended period and according to witnesses was displaying unusual behavior.

Sanchez reportedly approached two men and began yelling at them.

“The men told Sanchez to back away and Sanchez pulled a knife from his backpack and began swinging it at the men. Sanchez was detained by the victims until deputies arrived on scene,” stated sheriff’s officials.

Sanchez was taken to a local hospital for observation where the following day while still at the hospital, Sanchez pushed a hospital staff member.

Upon discharge from the hospital, Sanchez was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon and battery on a person.
