Phelan Community to Honor Coach Jason Hutton with Memorial Baseball Tournament in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Tri-Community is coming together to honor the life and legacy of Jason Hutton, a beloved local baseball coach, father, and community leader, who tragically died in a car crash on October 15, 2025.
Hutton, 40, of Palmdale, was the founder of the Phelan Senators travel baseball team and served on the Sunset Board of Directors. He was a dedicated mentor to many young athletes and a proud father of three daughters and stepfather to three more.
To honor his memory, a Memorial Baseball Tournament will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Coleman Field in Hesperia Community Park.
The public is invited to attend and pay tribute to a man described as “a strong, caring, and hard-working provider,” according to his family.

The day’s schedule begins at 7:30 a.m. with team pictures, followed by a ceremony lineup at 8:00 a.m. and an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m. on Field 3, featuring a guest speaker, a moment of silence, and a ceremonial first pitch. Baseball games will start at 9:00 a.m.
The event will also include food and activities for all ages:
- A snack bar and taco stand will be available
- Raffle baskets and a 50/50 raffle will be held
- A memorial table and donation box will be set up behind the backstop of the ceremony field
- A GoFundMe QR code will be posted at the memorial table
Games for 18U teams will take place on Field 7 (bottom fields).

The tragic crash occurred on October 15 at approximately 3:35 p.m. According to a written statement from the California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Area, Hutton was driving a 2004 Honda Civic southbound on 150th Street East and turned left into the path of a westbound Toyota Tacoma. He suffered fatal injuries at the scene. The other driver, a 35-year-old man from Lancaster, sustained moderate injuries.
Authorities confirmed that both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and drugs or alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the crash.
A GoFundMe campaign titled “Support Jason’s Family with Funeral Costs” was created by Sadie Mahler on behalf of Hutton’s wife, Amber Hutton. The fundraiser aims to help the family cover funeral expenses during this unexpected tragedy.

“Jason was a father to 3 girls, and was a step-father to another 3. He was a very loving husband to my mom, Amber Hutton, and did anything to provide for his family,” wrote Mahler in the campaign description. “He was also a son and a brother, he loved and cared so deeply for his family. Jason was a very strong, caring, and hard-working provider, he was always there when somebody needed him, and him and his family did not deserve this outcome.”
Donations to the GoFundMe are being collected both online and in person at the memorial event. “Donating to his funeral expenses would significantly help his family during this extremely difficult time, any amount is appreciated,” Mahler added.
The CHP continues to investigate the crash and encourages anyone with information to contact the Antelope Valley Area office.
