The initial report came from the driver of a semi-truck that said he thought he saw a person attempting to cross the freeway in a westerly direction. The truck driver also indicated that he believed that he may have hit the person. The driver of the semi-truck immediately pulled over to the right shoulder of the freeway and fully cooperated with authorities.

Upon arrival, CHP officials were able to determine that a 54-year-old Hispanic male was in fact dead at the scene.

The area was closed off to traffic for about two hours following the deadly collision. CHP stopped all northbound freeway traffic at the Bear Valley Road off ramp during the investigation, but all lanes were reopened just after 1:00 A.M.

The identity of the deceased is currently being withheld, and will be released by the San Bernardino Coroner’s Department pending notification of next of kin.

At this time it’s unknown why the unidentified man was attempting to cross the freeway. The incident is still under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
