Pedestrian struck and killed by motorcycle on Bear Valley Road ID’d

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The San Bernardino County Coroners Office identified the woman struck and killed on Bear Valley Road as Barbara Newsom, 41, of Apple Valley.

On July 16, 2018, at 8:53 pm, Newsom was struck by a 1986 Harley-Davidson motorcycle as she attempted to walk across Bear Valley Road in the eastbound lanes near Algonquin Road.

Deputies with Apple Valley Sheriff’s Department and paramedics responded to the intersection and when they arrived, they found Barbara Newsom lying on the roadway and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The male motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered a broken arm and ankle. Witnesses at the scene said the rider was distraught, and after removing his helmet he laid next to Newsom and attempted to comfort her.

Sheriff’s officials said alcohol or drugs did not appear to be a factor in the crash. The collision is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT).
