Pedestrian Killed on Highway 18 Thursday Night near Las Brisas Family Restaurant

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle, prompting the closure of a portion of Highway 18 near the Las Brisas Family Restaurant.

The incident occurred at 6:05 p.m. on the 21900 of Highway 18 and Pawnee Road, on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Upon arrival at the scene, deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department shut down the eastbound lanes at Navajo Road and Highway 18.

“The male pedestrian has been pronounced deceased at the scene,” stated Mara Rodriguez, Public Information Officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, to VVNG. Rodriguez added that the investigation is currently ongoing.

Two drivers of the trucks were observed communicating with authorities at the location; however, it remains unclear of their involvement in the collision.

In the aftermath of the incident, the eastbound lanes at Navajo Road and Highway 18 remained closed for the investigation.

The Apple Valley Police Department is leading the investigation, with further details pending.

1/12 at 6:00 am UPDATE: The San Bernardino County Coroner identified the deceased as Brian D. Johnson, 54, a resident of Apple Valley.
