HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A pedestrian struck and killed last night in Hesperia was identified as Jonathen Maldonado, 24, a resident of Apple Valley.
VVNG first reported on the fatal collision when it happened at about 7:00 pm on October 16, 2019, near the intersection of Mariposa Road and Live Oak Street in Hesperia.
Deputies arrived and found Maldonado deceased along the dirt shoulder. The vehicle that struck him, a 2006 Honda Odyssey, remained at the scene and the driver was cooperative with police.
According to a sheriff’s news release, Maldonado was walking northbound in the roadway when he was struck from behind by the Honda that was also traveling northbound on Mariposa Road approaching the intersection with Live Oak Street.
“Prior to the collision, Maldonado was riding in the passenger seat of his girlfriend’s vehicle near Interstate 15 and Main Street. It is alleged Maldonado physically assaulted his girlfriend prior to fleeing her vehicle on foot,” stated the release.
The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is conducting the investigation.
Mariposa Road was closed in both directions until approximately 11:00 pm from Live Oak Street to Main Street while investigators collected evidence.
Jonathen’s friends said he loved his two young daughters ages 3 and 5 more than anything.
