DEVORE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A chaotic scene unfolded Monday morning on the southbound I-15 freeway near Glen Helen Parkway when a male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle after reportedly running in and out of traffic and attempting to jump onto a moving truck.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident log, the first report was received around 7:08 a.m., describing a male down in the #2 lane of southbound I-15, just north of Glen Helen Parkway.
Multiple 911 callers reported erratic and dangerous behavior from the pedestrian, including laying down in lanes, running toward vehicles, and attempting to jump onto the bed of a white Nissan Frontier truck. Witnesses told CHP that the pedestrian fell onto the roadway after missing his attempt to jump onto the truck.
CHP confirmed the male was struck by the white Nissan Frontier during the incident. Despite being hit, the pedestrian was seen getting up and walking toward the center divider shortly after.
One witness, reportedly an off-duty officer, observed the male in the #4 lane appearing injured and holding hands in the air. Another driver advised dispatch that the pedestrian claimed to have been hit by a vehicle.
Traffic was temporarily halted while CHP units responded. At approximately 7:36 a.m., a witness in a white Dodge Ram 1500 advised that the pedestrian had also thrown a 2×4 piece of wood at his vehicle. CHP officers were seen detaining the pedestrian on the southbound side.
No further details about the pedestrian’s identity or medical condition were immediately available.
This incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Station.
