Pedestrian Hit and Killed on Monday Night in Apple Valley ID’d

APPLE VALLEY-(VVNG.com): Authorities have released the identity of the woman killed after she was struck by a vehicle while she was attempting to cross Highway 18 Sunday evening.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner on Monday identified Melanie Nina Villanueva, 54 of Ontario, as the person who was struck by a Dodge SUV just before 6:40 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2016.
Villanueva was reportedly running southbound across the lanes of traffic on Highway 18 near Dale Evans Parkway when she was struck by the SUV. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with deputies, but Villanueva was pronounced dead on scene, authorities said.
The crash is still under investigation by the Major Accident Investigation Team. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is urged to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Apple Valley Station at (760) 240-7400.
