Parked car falls into a sinkhole in Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Calif. ( – A parked car was swallowed by a sinkhole in Victorville early Tuesday when the road caved in beneath it.

The sedan was on Solitude Circle near the intersection of Jade Street around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday when its front half fell into the newly-formed pit, as shown in cell phone footage captured by nearby resident Antonio Gomez

The footage captured a vacant four-door car teetering on the rim of a large hole in the street. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in the incident.

A suspected malfunction in the link between the residence and the primary water pipeline is thought to have induced rapid erosion in the area, which resulted in the formation of the sinkhole.

“We currently believe a water main leak caused the sinkhole. Water service has been restored to homes in the area, and crews are working to rehabilitate the pavement,” Sue Jones, Public Information Officer for the City of Victorville, told Victor Valley News.
