Parents of Missing Newberry Springs Toddler Face Child Endangerment Charges

NEWBERRY SPRINGS-( Officials announced the parents of the 2-year-old missing Newberry Springs boy were arrested on Child Endangerment charges following his October 24th overnight disappearance.

The child’s parents, identified as Roger Vieiera, 51 and Jessica Blake, 27 reported the boy missing at about 6:52 p.m., from the 39000 block of Utah Drive, about 2 hours after he went missing from their yard while playing with the family dog.

According San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials, two helicopters, several search and rescue teams, five search dogs and deputies combed the area throughout the night. At about 7:19 a.m., a nearby resident, Helen Sullivan decided she would drive over to where the Sheriff patrol cars were located National Trails Highway to find out the situation.

As she drove in that direction, she drove slowly looking for anything out of the ordinary. As she made her way to where the patrol vehicles were about a mile from her home she saw a small black puppy about 30 feet off of the roadway and then heard a faint cry of a child. Sullivan ran to get the boy and his dog who both appeared to be in good condition.

The boy was transported to Barstow Community Hospital for a checkup and was subsequently released to Children and Family Services. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials said that Barstow Sheriff’s Detectives conducted an investigation into the living conditions and circumstances leading up to his disappearance.

The child’s parents were subsequently arrested and booked for Child Endangerment.
