Palmdale Road in Victorville closed after car crashes into utility pole

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) —  A stretch of westbound lanes on Palmdale Road in Victorville remain closed after a car crashed into a utility pole early Tuesday. 

It happened at about 3:51 am, in the 12800 block of Palmdale road, just west of Emerald Road in Victorville.

Firefighters responded to the incident and located an abandoned vehicle which had crashed into a wooden utility pole. The driver fled the scene, radio traffic reported. 

The impact caused the pole to split at the base and lean vertically.  

Southern California Edison employees have arrived and are working on repairing the damaged equipment. CalTrans is also at the scene assisting with the road closure. 

Westbound traffic on Palmdale Road is currently being detoured onto Emerald Road. Motorist are encouraged to use alternate routes such as Dos Palmas or Mojave Drive. Eastbound lanes were unaffected by the incident as of 8 am. 

Information on when the roadway is expected to reopen was not available at the time of this report.
