SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Eighty-four people were arrested and 22 firearms, including seven ghost guns, were seized during a weeklong countywide crime suppression effort known as Operation Consequences.
The operation took place between July 20 and July 26, 2026, and involved targeted enforcement efforts in Ontario, San Bernardino, Fontana, Barstow, Hesperia, Chino, Colton, Montclair and Rancho Cucamonga.
According to the written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, investigators with the Sheriff’s Gangs/Narcotics Division, San Bernardino County Probation, California Highway Patrol, Department of Homeland Security Investigations, San Bernardino Police Department, and personnel from the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division, multiple patrol stations, Rialto Police Department, Ontario Police Department, Montclair Police Department, Colton Police Department, Barstow Police Department and Upland Police Department participated in the operation. Members of the San Bernardino Movement Against Street Hoodlums (SMASH) Street Enforcement Team also conducted proactive patrols in San Bernardino and surrounding communities.
During the week, investigators served 19 search warrants, including a focused operation in Ontario and nearby communities on July 24. Authorities contacted gang members and individuals prohibited from possessing firearms.

The operation resulted in 41 felony arrests and 43 misdemeanor arrests. Investigators also seized 22 firearms, including seven ghost guns.
According to the written statement, Proposition 36, officially titled “The Homelessness, Drug Addiction and Theft Reduction Act,” was approved by California voters on Nov. 5, 2024, and took effect on Dec. 18, 2024.

The measure reformed several laws established under Proposition 47 and created new Penal Code and Health and Safety Code violations that can carry enhanced sentencing and limit cite-and-release eligibility before court appearances. Authorities said Proposition 36 was applied in two of the arrests made during the operation.
The Sheriff’s Department said the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors authorized funding for countywide crime suppression efforts to provide additional law enforcement services addressing quality-of-life issues throughout the county.

According to the written statement, Operation Consequences will continue over the coming months with targeted crime suppression operations, parole and probation compliance checks, and multi-agency enforcement efforts throughout the High Desert and Sheriff’s jurisdiction surrounding the city of San Bernardino. The initiative is intended to curb violent crime, disrupt criminal street gangs, and locate individuals illegally possessing, manufacturing and trafficking firearms.
