VICTORVILLE– Just before 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday emergency personnel was dispatched to the northbound I-15 Bear Valley Road off-ramp for the report of a vehicle into a pole.
Upon arrival San Bernardino County Fire Department officials located a white Ford Thunderbird and determined that a major extrication would be needed.
Before initiating the extrication process, first responders determined that the sole occupant of the vehicle had succumbed to his injuries.
At this time, the cause of the collision is still under investigation. The identity of the deceased person will be released pending notification of next of kin.
There were no other vehicles involved and no other injuries reported as a result of the collision. The off-ramp remains open with a single lane closed for drivers to exit the I-15 northbound. The San Bernardino County Coroner has been called to the scene. CalTrans is en route to determine the purpose of the pole and if vehicle removal will cause an issue.
