PHELAN: An off road accident in a remote area has left one person dead and a second with major injuries. Sheriff’s dispatch received a call from a reporting party requesting assistance for a single vehicle roll over in a OHV area.
The accident happened in what’s considered a very remote area near Phelan road and Eaby road, shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Friday.
Unconfirmed reports state the two occupants of the vehicle are possibly brothers. The vehicle is described as an open top Jeep late 90’s model. Per scanner traffic, a male occupant was reported to be pinned under the roll bar of the Jeep and upon arrival first responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s helicopter (40-king) assisted by using night vision and providing overhead assistance to first responders in order to reach the remote area. The rough terrain made it difficult for emergency vehicles to reach the crash site.
The San Bernardino Sheriff’s coroner was requested and advised to make necessary arrangements in order to reach the deceased patient at the remote crash site.
According to scanner traffic, the surviving patient suffered from major injuries, involving a possible broken back and shoulders and required to be airlifted out for his injuries. The patient was taken to a landing zone and was transported via Mercy Air to LLUMC trauma center.
No further details are available at this time and more information will be updated as it’s made available. The name of the descendant will be released pending notification of next of kin.
