Obituary: Remembering Sandra Luz Caveyo, 57, of Oak Hills

Oak Hills, Calif. (VVNG.com) – Sandra Luz Caveyo, a resident of the Oak Hills community and a native of Ensenada, Mexico, passed on December 21, 2023, at the age of 57, after a vibrant life filled with personal triumphs and communal contributions.

Sandra’s story began on June 3, 1966, in Mexico but it was South El Monte, California, that she called home for her younger years. Her educational journey mapped out through her attendance at Monte Vista Elementary, Charles Kranz Middle School, and her graduation from Monte Vista High School in 1984.

Not only did she excel academically, but she also took to the fields in softball and tennis, showcasing her athletic skill during her high school years.

It wasn’t just on the field where Sandra stood out; she had a gift for writing and organizing, a fact underscored by her role as editor of the high school yearbook between ’82-’83.

Her scholastic dedication continued into adulthood, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Phoenix in 2007 and 2011, respectively.

Sandra’s personal life was enriched by her marriage to Sergio, whom she first encountered in Sunday school at the First Fundamental Bible Church in Monterey Park. On August 14, 2023, they celebrated their 30th anniversary, and on the 21st of December, 2023, at the age of 57, Sandra passed away.

The news of Sandra’s untimely passing was met with profound sadness, especially by her family — husband Sergio and sons Samuel, Seth, and Steven. Sandra’s absence will also be deeply felt within the broader community, particularly amongst the members of the Mt. View Vikings Memorial Facebook group, where she is being honored in memoriam.

Her friend, Maria Diaz-Castillo, shared a tribute to the Mt. View Vikings Memorial Facebook group, “It is with great Sadness that I post this. Sandra Caveyo (Osuna-Class of 1984) passed away yesterday. Sandra was part of our MVHS Reunion committee, a great friend, and a Viking. She will be missed dearly by all of us. RIP my dear friend. Please keep her family in prayer.”

San Bernardino County Supervisor Paul Cook emphasized how much she will be missed by friends, relatives, and co-workers, noting her son Seth is one of those working under his guidance.

“I have the good fortune to have Seth work for me, he is one of our interns, and we discussed this morning this untimely passing, and we also join in all her friends and relatives that are going to miss her,” said Paul Cook, serving as a San Bernardino County Supervisor in the First District.

A graveside service in Sandra’s honor was held on January 10, 2024, at Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Friends, family, and members of the community came together to share memories and celebrate a life that, though ended, continues to resonate in the hearts of those she touched.

Sandra Luz Caveyo was born on June 3, 1966, and passed away on December 21, 2023. She leaves a legacy of love, community, and academic excellence that will be cherished by all who knew her.
