WASHINGTON, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced a new feature aimed at improving service and security for my Social Security account holders by offering secure digital access to their Social Security numbers (SSN).
The new enhancement, set to launch early this summer, will allow individuals to conveniently view their SSN online through the my Social Security portal — providing a modernized, secure alternative to carrying a physical Social Security card.
“We are proud to offer this new digital solution to our account holders,” said Lee Dudek, Acting Commissioner. “This enhancement reflects our commitment to providing better service to the public while ensuring that their personal information remains secure. We believe that this modern approach will meet the needs of our constituents in a more efficient manner.”
According to the SSA, the digital SSN feature is designed for use outside of Social Security business matters, giving people who may have forgotten their number or misplaced their card a simple and secure way to access their SSN on a mobile device. Officials say this will reduce the need for in-person visits or waiting for replacement cards by mail.
By offering a digital solution, the SSA also aims to minimize the risks associated with lost or stolen SSN cards while continuing to safeguard Personal Identifiable Information (PII).
The agency encourages all my Social Security account holders to take advantage of the new feature once it becomes available. Those interested in creating an account or learning more can visit ssa.gov/myaccount.
The SSA said it remains committed to building “a more accessible and secure future for all Social Security beneficiaries.”
