New Lottery System for ASAP Registration

Apple Valley, CA – January 24, 2017: Due to increasing demand for the limited space available in the After School Activities Program (ASAP), the Town of Apple Valley Recreation Department will implement a lottery system for the 2017/2018 school year.

“Under the first-come first-served system, parents were lining up earlier and earlier each year,” explained Lena Quinonez, recreation supervisor. “To provide a fair opportunity to all residents and create a more orderly process, we have decided to move to a lottery system this year.”

The application process will begin Tuesday, March 28 at 7:30 am and will close Tuesday, April 4 at 5:30 pm. Parents will be required to complete an “Intent to Join” form, available at the Town Hall Recreation Department. Each participant may have only one entry. No payments will be collected at that time.

Using random.org, participants will be selected on April 18, and parents will be contacted by phone if their child has received a space in the program. If one child from a family is chosen, siblings in the same household will also be given a spot. There will be no waitlists. As students leave the program, another name will be selected from the “Intent to Join” list.

ASAP is offered at five school locations in Apple Valley. Participants receive homework help, crafts and activities until 5:45 p.m. each school day. The program is a partnership between the Apple Valley Unified School District and the Town of Apple Valley, and has been offered for more than 20 years.
