BIG BEAR, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Friends of Big Bear Valley is inviting the public to help name Jackie and Shadow’s two bald eagle chicks through a donation-based contest open through April 26.
According to information provided by Friends of Big Bear Valley, participants can submit one, three or 10 name suggestions with donations of $5, $10 or $25, and may enter multiple times.
The eaglets hatched April 4 and April 5 and have continued to grow and develop in the nest, showing increasing activity and behavior as they mature.
All entries must be submitted by Sunday, April 26 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific time. After the deadline, “a computer program will randomly draw a list of finalists for the Big Bear third graders to vote on,” according to the organization.
Once the votes are cast and tallied, the selected names will be announced on the group’s official Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, website and other social media platforms.
Friends of Big Bear Valley said those who submit winning names will receive “a special certificate of recognition from Friends of Big Bear Valley,” while runners-up will also receive certificates for participation.
Contest rules require all submissions to be gender-neutral since the chicks’ sexes are not yet known. The organization added that “anything inappropriate (explicit, derogatory language, etc.) will be automatically filtered out,” and noted that participant data will not be shared.
Friends of Big Bear Valley, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, said donations support its ability to provide the bald eagle nest livestream around the clock as a free public resource.
“As a nonprofit, we rely on donations to provide the Bald Eagle Cam livestreams 24/7/365 as a public benefit, free from advertisements,” according to the information provided. “All donations are tax deductible and fund FOBBV’s programs which includes the nest camera, education and advocacy.”
People who want to participate can submit name ideas through for a small donation. The organization emphasized that its website is the only place to submit entries and encouraged participants to review the contest rules before entering.
