MOVIE REVIEW: Power Rangers Will Morph You Back Into a 90’s Kid

(VVNG.com)- It took 22 years to get a Power Rangers movie that I can be proud of, and it was definitely worth the wait. This flick serves up a healthy dose of nostalgia and adds a fresh and more realistic look at the team of teenage superheroes. When I was (way) younger I would look forward to coming home from school and watching the super cool and super corny Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, every day. I loved that show because of the costumes, the fighting, the Zords and the giant monsters. I didn’t care that my older brothers, Lalo and Richy, made fun of me for liking it even though, deep down, I knew that the show was extremely cheesy, full of overacting and packed with pretty crappy effects. I would tell them: “hey, that’s all part of the charm”. Well now, I am so happy to say that I do not need to defend the Power Rangers anymore, they have returned and they are cooler than ever.

I am really glad that the Rangers are back and I hope that they don’t “Go, Go” anywhere soon. In this new origin story, everything is not as honky dorey as it used to be in the TV show. This time around, the teens that are selected to be the new Rangers, all have problems that are more memorable and realistic than before. They all have a backstory that makes you like them and care for each and every one of them. The tone is also a lot darker and the flick is definitely tailor-made for fans but still highly entertaining for people that might not know anything about the 90’s show. I was geeking out like crazy with all the references to the show, the original music and the really awesome cameos.

I give Power Rangers the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!” This really fun flick has everything Power Rangers’ fans wished it had and a whole lot of other things that they didn’t even know they wanted.  I was grinning from start to finish thanks to the great cast, the fast paced action and the generous amount of humor. I doubt this flick will win any Oscars or anything, since it does have its fair share of imperfections, but they are easily overshadowed by all the fun.

Do yourself a favor and go check this flick out in theaters, you are sure to have a “MIGHTY” fine time, SPECIALLY if you were a fan of the show. The only thing I regret about this whole thing is that I didn’t save the tighty whities that my grandma got me when I was a kid (true story). Other than that I can’t believe that after 20 years, me and my 9 year old self can say without a shred of shame, that we are proud fans of the Power Rangers.

So, what did you think of the Power Rangers movie? Do you agree or disagree with me? Which flick are you checking out this week? What is your favorite movie based on a TV show, of all time? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great day at the movies and don’t forget to save me some popcorn.
