(VVNG.com)- Ladies and gentlemen, behold the Eighth Wonder of the World as he clashes with gigantic monsters and regular sized humans in some larger than life battles that will leave your eyes wondering what they did to deserve the honor of witnessing such beautiful visuals. Now, is this a deep emotional film that is going to provoke your thoughts or change the way you look at life? Nah! This is Kong, baby! Just grab your favorite theater snack and enjoy the many moments, during this 2 hour smash-fest, that solidify the fact that Kong is indeed… The King.
Look, it’s obvious that the main objective of the filmmakers was to have Kong’s badassery front and center by having him smash, bash, and do anything else that ends with “sh” throughout the flick, even if it meant sacrificing some of the deeper elements that make Kong, Kong. Maybe the movie could have been even better, but sometimes it’s fun to just put your brain on silent and enjoy a good popcorn flick. I mean there was a tiny glimmer of his kindness, compassion and love for blondes showcased during the movie, but the general focus was spent showing him off in spectacular shots of him fighting other giants or human soldiers (and their very unfortunate helicopters).
I give Kong: Skull Island, the “Checky™ Seal of Approval!” The look of the flick is beautiful, there is enough entertainment here to justify the price of a movie ticket and there is an end credit scene that will make any monster-movie fan, giddy with excitement. The movie does drag in a few parts and it might be a bit guilty of choosing style over substance. However, what this film lacks in depth and emotional attachment, it makes up for in fantastic showdowns between monsters, humans and all kinds of creepy creatures that call Skull Island, home.
So, what did you think of Kong Skull Island? Do you agree or disagree with me? Which flick are you checking out this week? What is your favorite Monster Movie of all time? Let me know in the comments below. Have a great day at the movies and don’t forget to save me some popcorn.
