CAJON PASS, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A motorcyclist was killed Friday afternoon in a crash on southbound Interstate 15 south of the Cajon Pass switchbacks, prompting the closure of multiple lanes as authorities investigate.
According to California Highway Patrol incident logs, the collision was first reported at approximately 12:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, as a motorcycle crash involving an unknown truck.
Initial reports indicated the motorcycle and rider were down in the slow lane. Additional callers reported the rider was unresponsive and debris was scattered across the roadway.
Per the logs, one caller advised a white water truck had pulled onto the right shoulder ahead of the scene, although it was initially unknown whether the truck was involved.
Subsequent updates indicated another vehicle reportedly swerved to avoid the crash, causing the motorcycle to also swerve before going into a truck. However, the exact sequence of events has not been confirmed, and CHP continues to investigate the collision.
At 1:08 p.m., dispatch advised the rider was deceased and requested a CHP extended investigation along with the closure of three of the four southbound lanes.
By approximately 1:13 p.m., only the No. 1 lane remained open while officers conducted their investigation.
In a traffic advisory issued Friday afternoon, the CHP San Bernardino Area office advised motorists to expect delays on southbound Interstate 15 due to the crash. Officials said the No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes would remain closed for an unknown duration and urged drivers to use alternate routes.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Coroner was requested to the scene.
The identity of the motorcyclist has not been released, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story, and additional information will be added as it becomes available.
