Memorial Service Scheduled for Hesperia Mayor Blewett

Hesperia, California – The City of Hesperia is thankful to the community for the outpouring of condolences after the loss of Mayor Russ Blewett.

The City of Hesperia issued the following statement:

It is with great sadness that the City shares the news of the passing of Hesperia Mayor Russ Blewett. Early this morning, surrounded by his family, Mayor Blewett passed unexpectedly while recovering from an unrelated illness. Mayor Blewett was a longtime resident of Hesperia and had resided in San Bernardino County for over 35 years. He was first elected to the Hesperia City Council in 2010 and served as Hesperia’s Mayor in 2012 and 2018. Serving on the Hesperia City Council was the second time Mr. Blewett had served on a City Council in Southern California. In the 1970s, Mayor Blewett was elected to the Baldwin Park City Council, serving as their Mayor twice during his tenure.

The son of a sheriff’s deputy, Mayor Blewett was a committed public servant known for his exemplary work ethic. Over the years, he had been involved with countless organizations and was an active member of his church. He was a dedicated family man, and loving grandfather of 4 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Mayor Blewett’s family asked that information on funeral services be shared with those interested in attending. Services are planned for Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 12100 Ridgecrest Road, Victorville, CA 92395 – in the Ridgecrest Building.

The Viewing is planned for 9:00 a.m. and the Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 a.m.
