VICTORVILLE:(VVNG.com)- A 40-year-old man changing a tire along the freeway was fatally struck by another vehicle early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The crash involving two vehicles was reported on the southbound i-15 near the Dale Evans Parkway at about 6:12 a.m. on July 12th.
According to authorities, a motorist in a white 2011 Toyota Prius was legally parked along the shoulder of the freeway changing a tire on his vehicle.
For unknown reasons, A Dodge Dart operated by 33-year-old Anthony Maracle, a resident of San Bernardino veered to the right shoulder and struck the stranded motorist.
The 40-year-old male sustained life-threatening injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently being withheld until positive, notification of next of kin.
A passenger inside of the Dart identified as 37-year-old Yolanda Perez sustained moderate injuries and was airlifted to Antelope Valley Hospital. A second passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Francisco Contreras, a resident Stockton, was not injured in the crash. The driver of the Dart was also uninjured in the crash.
The fatal crash shut down all southbound lanes for approximately 40 minutes while the helicopter landed on the freeway.
Authorities said, drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Victorville CHP office.
