Man steals mom’s car and leads deputies on a pursuit

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) A man suspected of stealing his mother’s vehicle led deputies on a pursuit Tuesday afternoon.

On July 18, 2017, a woman called Sheriff’s Dispatch and reported her vehicle, a red PT Cruiser, had been stolen by her son.

The suspect was located near Luna and Amethyst Roads driving the vehicle, deputies initiated a traffic stop and it appeared the suspect was cooperating but instead drove away.

The CHP Helicopter assisted Victorville Sheriff’s Deputies with the pursuit.

After traveling at speeds of 70 MPH through construction zones, residential streets, and busy roadways, the pursuit terminated a short time later on Highway 395 just north of Bear Valley Road.

Sheriff’s officials said a “text book procedure” of a pursuit intervention technique, or PIT maneuver, was used successfully to end the pursuit.

The man was detained without incident, and officials said he will be booked for Felony Evading and Grand Theft Auto.
