Man shot while driving on Highway 18 in Apple Valley; 2 arrested

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Police arrested two men after they shot a victim who was driving on Highway 18.

On June 3, 2019, deputies from the Apple Valley Police Department responded to an assault with a weapon call near Kasota Road and US Hwy 18.

The 24-year old male victim was driving eastbound on State Highway 18 when for unknown reasons the passenger of a vehicle traveling in the same direction fired one round at the victim striking him in the hand, officials said.

The victim drove himself to St. Mary’s Hospital where he was transported to Loma Linda University for serious injuries to his hand. 

Sheriff’s deputies said they located both suspects in the area shortly after the incident. They were identified as Derrik McGill, 18, a resident of Victorville and Shawn Pope, 28, a resident of Hesperia.

McGill and Pope were arrested and booked at the High Desert Detention Center for Attempted Murder. They are scheduled to appear in Victorville Superior Court on June 5, 2019.
