Man shot dead in Hesperia front yard identified; shooter sought

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A man shot to death outside his home in Hesperia early Tuesday has been identified as 22-year-old Alejandro Espinoza.

Police were called to 15000 block of Sycamore Street in Hesperia at about 2:00 am after neighbors reported hearing gunshots and a man struck by gunfire.

Officers found Espinoza lying inside the property fence, near a gate and pronounced him deceased at the scene. Scanner traffic reported the victim had been struck at least five times.

Homicide Detectives conducting the investigation learned that Espinoza was outside of the residence with another man when a dark-colored sedan drove up and began yelling at them.

“The driver left but returned several minutes later. The driver exited the vehicle and fired several shots, striking Espinoza. The driver then sped away,” stated a sheriff’s news release.

Surveillance video obtained by VVNG from a near-by home captured the audio of about a dozen rounds of rapid gunfire. The resident who wished to remain anonymous said he was horrified after counting at least 9 rounds.

Family of the victim spoke to Victor Valley News and said Alejandro and a friend were hanging out in the family’s front yard when he was shot. “He was a good kid, no gang involvement at all. We don’t know why someone would do this,” stated a family member.

Nobody has been arrested and detectives are attempting to identify the suspect.
