Man runs after crashing car; leaves injured wife & kids behind

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (news release) A man involved in a traffic collision fled the scene of the crash, leaving behind his injured wife and kids, officials said.

On Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 10:32 pm, Deputy Dave Moyer from Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station saw a black vehicle driving towards him in the area of Cahuilla and Japul Road in Apple Valley.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on Cahuilla when it swerved into Deputy Moyer’s lane. The driver over-corrected, veering off onto the shoulder of the road and then sped off at a high rate of speed.

Deputy Moyer turned his Sheriff’s patrol unit around to catch up with the vehicle.

When he located the vehicle, it crashed into a dirt field several miles away from the initial incident.

The suspect, later identified as Juan Manual Flores, 39, a resident of Apple Valley, jumped out of the vehicle when he saw Deputy Moyer and fled into the desert to hide, leaving his injured wife and two young children behind.

Deputy Moyer and his K-9 partner “Ellie” located Flores and he was taken into custody without incident.

Flores’s wife and children, ages 3 and 5, all suffered multiple lacerations and possible broken bones. They were transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment of their injuries. Juan Manual Flores was booked into the Victor Valley Jail where he is currently being held instead of $100,000.00 bail. California Highway Patrol will conduct the investigation into the collision.
