Man on Motorized Shopping Cart Struck and Killed by Pickup Truck in Apple Valley

APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 53-year-old Apple Valley man riding a motorized shopping cart was struck and killed by a pickup truck Tuesday night.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. on August 19, 2025, near the intersection of Dale Evans Parkway and Zuni Road in the Town of Apple Valley.
Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded and determined that a gray 2002 Mazda B-Series, driven by a 49-year-old man from Barstow, was traveling northbound when it struck the rider from behind.
Investigators said the man had been traveling in the northbound lane on a motorized shopping cart when the collision occurred. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
The rider sustained major injuries and was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later died. As of Wednesday, authorities have not released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
According to a written statement from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, it is currently unknown whether drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T) is conducting the investigation.
Dale Evans Parkway and Zuni Road were closed for approximately four hours while officials processed the scene.
