Man looking for a ride calls 911 to report fake shooting in Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A man allegedly looking for a ride was arrested after he called 911 and reported a fake shooting, officials said.
On July 7, 2019, at about 8:30 pm, Jesse Antonio Mejia, 45, a resident of Ontario, called 911 saying he was being threatened.
Sheriff’s spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez said within a few minutes Mejia called 911 back, this time stating he had been shot.
The call prompted deputies and personnel from Victorville Fire and AMR to respond to the emergency with lights and sirens to the 16500 block of Stoddard Wells Road.
“Upon arriving, deputies discovered Mejia had not been shot and was not in any danger. In fact, he had been wandering around the Shady Oasis campground harassing people. He called 911 and reported the false emergencies so that deputies would respond quickly, as he wanted a deputy to give him a ride to a friend’s house in Hesperia,” stated Rodriguez.
Mejia was booked at the High Desert Detention Center and later released with a court date.
