Man in Wheelchair Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle on Mojave Drive in Victorville
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A man in a wheelchair was killed Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on Mojave Drive in Victorville.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on January 22, 2026, just west of Village Drive near the Circle K gas station.
Emergency crews performed CPR before the man was transported by ambulance from the scene.
According to a statement from San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department public information officer Jenny L. Smith, “The man was crossing the roadway when he was hit. Unfortunately, he did not survive.”

Witnesses at the scene said the victim is a white male believed to be in his 60s. Locals identified him as a homeless man known in the area as “old man James,” who is often seen near a dumpster behind the Economy Inn.
The vehicle involved was described as a black four-door sedan, possibly a Toyota Camry, with major damage to the front passenger side.
The car came to a stop in the eastbound lanes of Mojave Drive.
Smith stated the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. “The driver remained on scene and drugs, or alcohol do not appear to be a factor at this time,” she said.

Deputies with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department closed Mojave Drive between Village Drive and Condor Road using crime scene tape as part of the investigation.
Public Works crews with the City of Victorville responded to assist with a hard road closure.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details, including the man’s identity, will be released at a later time.
