Man Identified After Fatal Bicycle Collision at U.S. 395 and Joshua Street in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was killed in an early morning traffic collision last week at the intersection of U.S. Highway 395 and Joshua Street.
Deputies and personnel from San Bernardino County Fire responded to the crash on Friday, February 20, 2026, at approximately 5:28 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies located an adult male in the intersection who was unresponsive.
The man was later identified as John Hewitt, a 48-year-old Victorville resident. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel.
The department’s Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) responded and took over the investigation.
“Preliminary findings indicated that while Hewitt was riding his bicycle he was struck by a driver of a Subaru,” the statement said. “The impact knocked the cyclist off his bicycle and onto the ground. While the man was on the ground, he was subsequently struck by a driver of a Toyota Camry.”
Both motorists remained at the scene and were cooperative with investigators, according to the written statement.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with additional information regarding the collision is asked to contact Deputy N. Sosa at the Hesperia Station at (760) 947-1500. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may contact We-Tip at 1-800-78-CRIME (27463) or visit www.wetip.com.
