Man dumps gun during foot pursuit in Victorville

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A man ran through an Old Town Victorville neighborhood after he was pulled over for a traffic violation.

According to sheriff’s officials, on August 8, 2018, at 3:29 p.m.,  Deputy V. Quiroz, from the Victorville Police Department, attempted to make a traffic stop on D Street for violation of a vehicle code.

As Deputy Quiroz approached the vehicle the driver, Steven Rugelio, exited and fled on foot. Quiroz followed and during the foot pursuit he observed Rugelio had his right hand pressed close to his waistband securing what appeared to be pouch or holster.

“A handgun and holster were recovered from a planter, where Rugelio dropped them before surrendering near 11th Street. Assisting deputies located ammunition and suspected methamphetamine in the vehicle,” officials said.

Rugelio was arrested and booked at High Desert Detention Center for felon in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.
