Man dies after running from hit-and-run crash in Spring Valley Lake

VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) – The driver of a pick-up truck involved in a hit-and-run died after running from the scene of the crash, officials said.

It happened on January 25, 2018, at 12:40 am, in the community of Spring Valley Lake in Victorville.

According to officers with the California Highway Patrol, it was determined that a Silver Nissan Frontier was traveling eastbound on Driftwood Drive, east of Spring Valley Lake Parkway, at an unknown speed when, for reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Nissan, a 48-year-old male from Victorville, CA, made an unsafe turning movement to the right causing it to collide with a Toyota Camry that was parked along the south roadway edge.

The Nissan continued in a south-easterly direction colliding with a small brick wall that separates two residences causing the Nissan to overturn and collided with to additional parked vehicles located within a driveway of a residence.

Following this crash, both the driver and passenger fled the scene of the collision and entered the backyard of a nearby residence. The homeowner of the residence found both occupants of the vehicle in his backyard and called 911, officials said.

The driver was transported by ambulance to Victor Valley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

“It is currently under investigation whether the cause of death was related to the traffic collision, or a preexisting medical condition,” CHP officials said in a news release. The cause of death is under investigation by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s-Coroner Department.
