Man dies after car crashes with a tree on I-15 freeway near Harvard Road

YERMO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A 55-year-old man from Bell Gardens, CA was killed after his vehicle collided with a tree along the I-15 freeway Sunday morning.

The crash was reported at about 8:44 am, on March 17, 2018, on the northbound I-15, approximately half-mile from the Harvard Road off-ramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident logs, at 8:49 am, a reporting party said the vehicle was smoking and one person was attempting to get out but was stuck inside the vehicle.

San Bernardino County Fire arrived on scene and extricated the sole-occupant from the vehicle. CHP officials later confirmed the driver sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

CHP officials said the 55-year-old driver of the Toyota allowed his vehicle to drive from the no. 1 lane to the no. 2 lane, across the right shoulder and into the open desert.

“The Toyota continued travelling in a northeasterly direction within the open desert until the front of the vehicle collided with a tree,” stated the CHP news release.

The crash is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Area Office.  

Alcohol and/or drugs are not believed to be a contributing factor in this collision.
