Man dead after barricade situation leads to officer involved shooting in Hesperia

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a barricade situation that led to an officer-involved shooting in Hesperia on Sunday afternoon.

On Sunday, August 5, 2018, at approximately 11:43 am, deputies from the Hesperia Station responded to a report of a male subject, later identified as Kevin Rinehart, brandishing a weapon in the 9400 block of Tamarisk Avenue in Hesperia.

The reporting party stated Rinehart pointed a long rifle at his 4-year-old son and then pointed a handgun at the reporting party for an unknown reason.

When deputies arrived, Rinehart had barricaded himself inside his home and was refusing to peacefully exit his trailer. After failed attempts, a search warrant, and arrest warrant were obtained.

Deputies requested the assistant of the Specialized Enforcement Division and SWAT members responded to the location. Numerous PA announcements, and phone calls were made to Rinehart however, he continued to refuse to come out.

At approximately 5:15 pm, Rinehart exited his trailer armed with a handgun and a Deputy Involved Shooting occurred. Rinehart was pronounced deceased at the scene, a hand gun was found lying next to him. No deputies were injured during the incident.

Investigators from the Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail responded to the location and are currently conducting the investigation.
