Man Arrested For Kidnapping a Woman And Kids

BARSTOW-( A 25-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for kidnapping a woman and her children. At around 9:00 a.m. a woman called 911 reporting that she and her two kids were kidnapped from Hemet at gunpoint by her boyfriend, Zachary Papp.

According to authorities, the woman called as she was driving southbound on Highway 395 with her children in the vehicle from a Pilot Station in Kramer Junction. She told authorities that Papp threatened to take her and the children to Reno Nevada.

The woman said she was only able to escape when Papp pulled into the Pilot Truck Stop at US 395 and Kramer Junction. When Papp stepped out of the vehicle, the woman jumped into the driver’s seat and left with the kids. She was able to drive to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Victor Valley Station in Adelanto and provide additional information regarding the incident.

Through an area search for the suspect, Barstow deputies were able to locate Papp and recover a gun allegedly used to commit the crime. He was arrested without incident and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for False Imprisonment with $250,000 bail.

There were no injuries reported as a result of this incident. Anyone with information can contact Deputy Robbie Moore, or Sergeant Jim Evans at the Barstow Sheriff’s Station.
