VICTORVILLE-(VVNG.com): A 60-year-old Victorville man was arrested after impersonating a peace officer and pepper spraying a homeless man on Sunday evening, officials said.
Just before 6:40 p.m. deputies from the Victorville Police Department responded to the Winco grocery store located on the 15300 block of Roy Rogers Drive after receiving reports that pepper spray was used on a homeless man.
The suspect was described by witnesses to be a white male, 50-60 years of age, who was driving a red Corvette. The report stated the suspect approached the homeless man and identified himself as a peace officer. The suspect was not in uniform and displayed no badge or ID.
The victim asked the suspect for proof that he was in fact law enforcement. The suspect, later identified as Joseph Fekete, then went back to his vehicle and returned with pepper spray to spray the victim in his face.
Sheriff officials stated that Deputy Brosowske remembered a similar incident and through a records check was able to access a photo of Fekete to identify him.
On Monday morning at about 1:00 a.m. Fekete was located in the 14100 block of Bonanza Road and booked into the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto. He is being held on $100,000 bail and is set to appear in court for an arraignment hearing on Wednesday afternoon. He was booked for assault with a chemical, but may face additional charges.
