Man arrested for assaulting an off-duty deputy

HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) A 56-year-old San Bernardino man was arrested for assaulting an off-duty deputy and robbery Wednesday.

At 4:13 p.m., a robbery was reported at “Puff N Pass’ in the 11300 block of Ranchero Road on September 6th.

“Deputy Coby Fox responded to the call and learned an unknown female suspect had stolen merchandise from the business,” officials said.

According to a sheriff’s news release, Darrell Fowler and a female suspect entered the business together. “Fowler distracted the store clerk while the female stole two Hookah Pipes and ran to a waiting car.”

The manager at ‘Puff N Pass’ chased after the female suspect and was assaulted in the parking lot.

An off-duty San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputy witnessed the fighting and after identifying herself, assisted the store manager, officials said.

As the deputy assisted the store manager, Fowler approached the deputy from behind ordering him to ‘stay back’, officials said.

The deputy showed Fowler her badge and identified herself again and was punched on her arm by Fowler.

The female suspect fled during the confrontation between the deputy and Fowler.

Darrell Fowler was arrested on charges of robbery and resisting an executive officer. Fowler was booked at High Desert Detention Center where he is currently being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
