UPDATE 10/14: Caltrans Officials announced that work to upgrade the Joshua Street Bridge in Hesperia has been canceled. There will be no freeway or road closures. Motorists are advised to stay tuned for future updates.
HESPERIA, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Commuters will notice slowdowns on Interstate 15 (I-15) as Caltrans begins work to upgrade the Joshua Street Bridge in San Bernardino County.
This work is part of a $6.6 million Bridge Maintenance Project funded through Senate Bill (SB) 1, the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017, that refurbishes and upgrades three existing bridges on the I-15 and I-40.
Bridge work is scheduled to begin Friday, October 18 in Hesperia at the Joshua Street overcrossing on I-15. The Joshua Street Bridge will be FULLY CLOSED, with no through access EASTBOUND or WESTBOUND through late November. All work is weather permitting.
Crews will perform demolition work on Saturday, October 19 between 11 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. into Sunday morning. This will require a FULL CLOSURE of I-15 in BOTH DIRECTIONS at Joshua Street Bridge. Commuters are advised to plan ahead and expect significant delays in the area. Detour signage will be posted.
Drivers must seek alternate routes to avoid the closure area. All traffic will be directed from I-15 to SR-395 and SR-18. Please note work schedule is subject to change without notice.
BRIDGE DEMOLITION ACTIVITIES REQUIRING I-15 NORTHBOUND AND SOUTHBOUND FULL CLOSURES ARE SCHEDULED FROM 11 P.M. TO 7:30 A.M. ON THE FOLLOWING DAYS:
- Saturday, October 19
- Saturday, October 26
- Saturday, November 2
- Saturday, November 16
The Joshua Street bridge deck will be demolished and replaced therefore freeway closures on the I-15 northbound and southbound will take place as needed. In addition, commuters may experience lane or ramp closures as needed.
Drivers are advised to take precautions and look for signs indicating detour routes and lane reductions. Construction on all three bridges for this project is expected to be complete by late Spring 2025.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed in and around the work zone and be advised that weather and/or other factors may affect the construction schedule.
SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually split between the state and local agencies. Road projects progress through construction phases more quickly based on the availability of SB 1 funds, including projects that are partially funded by SB 1.
