Lucerne Valley woman, 23, killed in crash on SR-247

LUCERNE VALLEY, Calif. ( — – A 23-year-old woman from Lucerne Valley was killed in a traffic collision last week, officials said.

It happened on November 20, 2019, at about 8:50 am, on State Route 247 near mile marker 65 and involved a 1990 Isuzu traveling northbound on the highway at an unknown speed.

According to an eyewitness, “a series of three northbound tractor trailer combination vehicles were traveling ahead of the Isuzu’s location. The tractor trailer in the middle of the three, began to pass the lead tractor trailer utilizing the southbound lane. As the tractor trailer vehicle was passing, the female driver of the Isuzu entered the southbound lane to attempt to pass the rear tractor trailer combination vehicle. As she was overtaking the rear vehicle, the driver of the rear tractor trailer merged left into the southbound lane to pass as well. The female in the Isuzu turned right in attempt to avoid a collision with the tractor trailer. The Isuzu veered to the right and went off the roadway to the east, onto the right dirt shoulder. The driver turned left in attempt to return to the roadway. The Isuzu traveled in a northwesterly direction across the northbound and southbound lanes and onto the west dirt shoulder, of SR-247. The front of the Isuzu struck a dirt berm, became airborne and overturned into the open desert.”

CHP officials said the female driver who was unrestrained, was fully ejected from the vehicle and sustained major blunt force trauma as a result of the collision. The three tractor-trailers continued northbound on SR-247 without stopping.

The 23-year old female driver was transported by air to Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, CA and later succumbed to her injuries on November 21, 2019.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be a contributing factor in this collision.
