Krystal Haro Identified as Woman Found in Shallow Grave Near Helendale; Family Launches GoFundMe
HELENDALE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — The woman found buried in a shallow grave in the remote desert near Helendale has been identified by family members as 38-year-old Krystal Haro.
Krystal’s name was shared publicly through a GoFundMe campaign created by her sister, Ashley Haro, titled “Honoring the Life of Krystal Haro.” The campaign was launched to help cover funeral and memorial expenses following the tragic discovery.
The woman’s body was found on the morning of Sunday, January 11, 2026, in a desert field located east of U.S. Highway 395 and north of Buckthorne Canyon Road.
A passerby driving along Buckthorne Canyon Road spotted what appeared to be a mannequin. Upon closer inspection, the driver realized it was a human body and called for help.
Deputies from the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station responded and requested assistance from homicide detectives. Investigators confirmed the body was buried in a shallow grave.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
In the GoFundMe campaign, Ashley Haro wrote: “She was a daughter, a sister, and a mother to her son, my nephew, who was the center of her heart. She was intelligent, funny, and loving, with a spirit that touched the lives of those who truly knew her.”
“She had a presence that stays with you—something that can’t be reduced to one chapter of her life,” the description continued. “Our family is grieving her loss while holding space for the complexity of who she was and the love that remains.”
Ashley is asking for community support to help provide Krystal with a dignified burial. “If you’re able to donate, we are truly grateful. If not, sharing this fundraiser or keeping our family in your thoughts means just as much,” she wrote.
