
BARSTOW, Calif. (PRESS RELEASE) With the assistance of K9 Ellie, detectives were able to locate a murder victim who had been buried at a Barstow home.
On Saturday, May 13, 2017, sheriff’s personnel from the Barstow Sheriff’s Station received information a shooting and possible homicide occurred on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, in the 36000 block of Ramirez Road, Barstow.
During the investigation, Detective Jeremy Vasquez with the Barstow Station identified and interviewed witnesses to the shooting.
On Tuesday, May 16, 2017, investigators from the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded and assumed the investigation.
Vasquez and homicide investigators conducted additional interviews. On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, a search warrant was served at Scott Brodie’s residence on Ramirez Road and he was detained for questioning.
K9 Deputy David Moyer responded with K9 Ellie. Ellie is trained to detect human remains. Ellie searched the property and alerted to a specific location. Personnel from the Coroner’s Division and Scientific Investigations Division excavated the site where Ellie alerted. During the excavation, a male body was located.
Scott Brodie, 44, a resident of Barstow was arrested and booked at the Barstow Jail for PC 187-Murder.
On Thursday, May 19, 2017, fingerprints were obtained from the decedent. The decedent was identified as Archie Stewart, 33-years-old, a resident of Barstow.

In June of 2016, Scott Brodie was arrested for the murder of Robert Whitnack which occurred at the same property on Ramirez Road in Barstow. Through investigation, detectives determined the two men were involved in a verbal dispute inside a building on the property and Brodie shot Whitnack. For reasons still unknown, Brodie was released a few days later.
